“And when from death I’m free…”

“He descended into hell, the third day He rose again from the dead and is seated on the right hand of God the Father Almighty.”

The wrath that Jesus met when He died on the cross that Friday afternoon was far beyond anything that our feeble minds can comprehend.  “He descended into hell…” He took the punishment that was intended for us and bore it Himself so that we may know life to the max.

We think we know what it is like to experience love that all encompassing.  Whether it is for children, a spouse or significant other, or a best friend, I know that most of us have experienced that feeling where we feel as if we are about to bust because the “feeling” love is so overwhelming.  Yet, what kind of love was it that that caused the Father to send His one and only Son to die for me and you?

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this
That caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down
Beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul for my soul,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb,
Who is the great I AM,
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
While millions join the theme, I will sing.

And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
And when from death I’m free
I’ll sing His love for me,
And through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
And through eternity I’ll sing on.

Happy Easter to you and yours.  May you feel the love of Jesus today as we celebrate the fact that He defeated death and we have nothing to fear.  No more darkness, no more night.  He is risen!
